Date: November 6-7, 2025
Instructor: Jill Staubitz
Huck Lace and Bronson Lace are both beautiful block and unit weave lace structures that have intrigued weavers for ages. Both lace structures have a lot of design potential for creating beautiful cloth. We’ll examine the differences between the two laces by studying each of their threading, tie up, and treadling rules. We’ll talk about profile drafts and block weaves and translate profile drafts into thread-by-thread drafts using the rules from both structures.
Participants will have their choice of prepping their loom for either a Bronson Lace draft or a Huck Lace draft. In class, participants will design their own tie ups and weave their unique designs per their lace choice. Both drafts have an added twist of color and weave too! Although not necessary, students are encouraged to bring their laptops and weaving software to class.
Level: Beyond beginner to intermediate. Participants must have prior weaving experience, know how to dress their loom and understand how to read a draft. This class is designed for 8 shaft looms. Table looms are encouraged so that students can easily change their lift plans. Jack looms may also be used in which case students may want to change tie ups as they change their designs. (I can help with tie ups!) Please note that this class isn’t appropriate for countermarche looms.
About 5 weeks prior to the workshop, I will send a sample drawdown for each of the lace gamps, along with all directions for dressing your loom with the lace draft of your choice. Come to class ready to weave! I will also send a list of materials needed for class such as graph paper, pencils, scissors, etc.
Approximately one week after the class ends, we’ll meet on Zoom so participants will have the opportunity to share results, ask questions, and discuss observations from the workshop. A Zoom link will be provided.
