COLOR CODED THREADS

Weaving is the perfect medium to explore the shifting behaviors of color while creating with patterned building blocks. While the loom stores coded patterns, the weaver can access them in creative ways. This workshop will focus on double weave structures, specifically on how to integrate compatible patterned and textured weaves to create more surface interest. To get the most from this workshop, students should have an 8 shaft loom, (floor looms with treadles are preferable) in order to maximize the potential for color interaction and texture. Students need to bring pickup sticks to experiment with combining loom-controlled structures with hand manipulation. This workshop will move beyond traditional boundaries to explore how color shifts and interacts across a group of related double weave structures.  Appropriate for intermediate weavers. Students will be responsible to warp their looms ahead of time using high-contrast multi-colors.  Warping instructions will be provided by the instructor 4 weeks prior to the workshop. Students should bring their own weft yarns and weaving tools (shuttles, bobbins etc) Cotton warp and weft are recommended. The instructor is planning to bring additional colors of 8/2 cotton.
