Local Area Meetings

The local areas hold regular meetings in addition to the bimonthly guild statewide meeting. The state guild is divided geographically into four areas. For information about any area, contact the area chairperson. Please feel free to attend any area meeting. For information on which area is closest to you, contact the webmaster.

Weather alerts for state meetings: If the weather looks dicey, check the link to the University of CT - Greater Hartford campus storm alerts. If the campus is closed, the guild meeting will be cancelled. Note: this is the University of CT - Greater Hartford, NOT the University of Hartford. Always consider your safety first. Weather and road conditions may vary considerably across the state, so all guild members should evaluate their local conditions before venturing out.

Area I - North Central CT
Meetings held bimonthly from October through June

     (Currently via Zoom)
Area 1 Contacts: Lisa Green, Darcy Topper and Joie McKennerney

December 3rd is the date of our next meeting, and it will take place from 3 to 5:30 at the Hartford Artisans Center. There will not be a gift exchange or food at this meeting.

We will define the initial parameters of the study project, and Jill Staubitz will lead a discussion of color choices. She’ll have double weave samples to illustrate the results. There will also be an overview of double weave with samples from a workshop taught by Fran Curran in 2009. If you have show and tell that you would like to share, please bring it for us to enjoy or bring in a handwoven (or knitted or crocheted?) winter holiday (Christmas or other) item that you pull out every year and tell us about it.

Area 2 - South Central CT

Meetings held monthly October through June at 7 pm (Currently via Zoom)

Area 2 Contact: Donna Batsford

Area 2 will meet on Thursday, November 4 on Zoom. The topic for discussion will be Overshot. We will also be deciding whether to do a friendship exchange this year. Our December meeting will be on Thursday, December 2. The topic to be discussed is yet to be decided. We usually have a potluck meeting in January, but we will have to wait and see what the health recommendations are at that time.  Please contact Donna Batsford with any questions.

Area 3 - Western CT

Meetings are held monthly on the second Sunday of the month (Currently via Zoom at 11 am)
Area 3 Contact: Julia Ludlow-Ortner and Sue Taube

Area 3 has settled on our Friendship Project for this year – a double weave shuttle holder! The exchange will be happening next summer, rather than our regular January exchange.

Our next area meetings will be held via Zoom on Sundays, November 14 and December 12, at 11 am. Please contact me if you would like to join our discussions at julia@ashforth.com, and I’ll be sure to get you on our list. Looking forward to seeing you all soon.

Contact Julia directly to confirm that the meeting is “on” and receive the call-in information.

Area 4 - Eastern CT, Southern CT River Valley and Rhode Island
Meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month
Area 4 Contact: Bev Lewis

We had a terrific day last month at our Eco-printing workshop/meeting organized by Jody Brewer and Cindy Palmer. We had tons of great results and many of us continued experimenting at home.

Our next meeting is November 11th at Old Lyme Congregational Church. We are focusing on the bags we sew for children in the DCF system. We are finishing bag and making kits for other areas who may wish to participate in this worthwhile project. Many thanks to Sue Jones for organizing this event and carrying the torch for these children. Let me know if you want us to email the instructions. Every bag has to have handwoven on it!

Heads up, On January 13 we will have a zoom session with Deb Silver on Split Shaft weaving. I am going to set up a loom to try this fabulous technique. Happy Weaving.

We are working on making bag kits for the children at DCF. Want to make a bag for a foster child? Instructions here. This project has been publicized in several newspapers and magazines lately.  Please contact me if you would like more information.  This is being coordinated by Michele O. and Sue J.
